Dissappointing Journalism
I have started following Ajay Shah's blog and I agree with him about our media. I am trying to find ONE site where I see a list of all fallen servicement, their profiles. An article which presents the unfolding of events in a chronological order so that we can understand.
None of the indian newspapers or media sites have this. Also the layout of these sites leaves much to be desired. Check out Times Of India as opposed to say New York Times. Its night and day. Rediff is equally horrible. Anyways, I digress.
Wall Street Journal has put together the most comprehensive description of the sequence of events. Also there is an article yesterday that gives detail about the Indian operative who helped the bast..er.. terrorists. He is a Faheem Ahmed Ansari originally from Motilal Nagar, Goregaon! Check this article at WSJ on his role.
Also Boston Globe maintains a blog where they post pictures they collated from various sources on a specific topic. The images are always of very high quality, vivid and with this backdrop- heart wrenching. WHY could the Indian media not produce something of this calibre? Sad..

As i added these links on Delicious to my account, it hit me when i had to create a new tag - 'terrorism'. I never thought I would need such a tag.
So can someone atleast point me to a post which lists all the names of the fallen. I am trying to think how we can help these folks. But first lets find them....

Innovation in India? Oxymoron?
I came across an well written article which points out the obvious- lack of innovation coming from India and some suggestions to remedy it. A lot of it is common sense- energy, transportation, education etc. But one point made in a comment caught my eye. It talked about our religions and allow me to quote:
"...The concept of consumerism and materialism is foreign to Indian religions such as Vedism/Sanatam Dharma, Sikhism, Jainism, Buddhism. Where there is no want, there is no need to innovate or create."
Very interesting! Reminds me of "Greed is good" - Gordon Gekko. :)
But this stereotype is so common even in Bollywood- rich guy is greedy tyrant while poor has the ideals. City guy is slick, farmer is rustic and innocent. Time to get rid of these notions.

Inspiration! ... ?
For a while I was aware that RD's Mehbooba was a lift from some western/african number. It was actually not that hard to find. The artist is Demis Roussos. It is interesting that he had worked with Vangelis... more about him later. But anyway the song is Say You Love Me. Its got more of a Celtic touch with Egyptian vocals. But Mehbooba still rocks! with Helen being icing on the cake..hehe
Perhaps you know that Vangelis' most famous/commercial theme - Chariots of Fire has made it into Hindi. Remember Khoon Bhari Maang and "Tuu Meri Hai Janu"? Now that somehow did not work for me. We have the inspiring theme on one hand and then .. who was that.. Bijlee writhing away.. haphazardly at that song.. sheesh!

So where do I begin?...
I am at a loss of words to describe the dark ages that our banks operate in. The apathy towards clients is beyond apalling. I have been having such a tough time getting things going that I will be able to fill MBs of this blog with my woes. So bear with me as my cup of (banking) misery spilleth over your search...
